Hello, hello and thanks for stopping by!

My name is Irina and you may already know me as Irene Strange. I am a designer and a maker, focusing on unusual amigurumi and cute useful crochet items. Some of my patterns appear in UK’s crochet magazines and blogs.

I have a lot of admiration for all fibre arts, but crochet is the one that I enjoy most. It feels like the most natural fit for toy-making, as it’s both simple and versatile. Once you understand how to make the ball of yarn take on a three-dimentional shape the sky is the limit to what can be done!

I don’t think I have a particular style as such, but when designing for my pattern shop I try to look for interesting shapes or ways of constructing the amigurumi. Integrating textured stitches into toys or creating things with seamless construction is always fun to explore. Most of the patterns I write are for amigurumi animals, I am especially fond of woodland animals like owls and hedgehogs. Growing up in a big city, any glimpse of wildlife was always so magical – I hope to capture some of that into the things I make.

I am a very visual person (well duh – I’m actually a graphic designer by trade!), so in my own patterns you will often find crochet charts as well as written instructions. I really believe the charts can help understand even the most complex of stitches.

Now that my little ones are not so little I finally have a bit more time to set aside to crochet, in a way it feels like I am just getting started! So look around at what I get up to, see work in progress on my Instagram feed or the finished projects on here or Etsy and Ravelry. Hope to see you there!
